Who we are
Hawaii Ocean Power Solutions was founded in 2021 by a team of entrepreneurs and researchers at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute of the University of Hawaii to forward the goal of commercializing wave energy in Hawai'i. Our island ecosystem is one that has always relied on societies sustainable interaction with the ocean for the nourishment of our community. If we hope to continue to sustain our community in these changing times, we need to be able to observe the changes happening.
Society needs to begin to understand our changing weather. We are here to help that happen.
Our broader mission is to harness the power of the ocean as the foundation of a global blue economy. We seek to unlock a knowledge-based ocean economy, looking to the ocean for data and information to respond to societal challenges and inspire their solutions. We lack a planetary system for observing the remote areas of our vast oceans due to data and power limitations. These power solutions that we seek can have broad impacts on the way society functions by creating a planetary system to observe the ocean.
Our Values
Our values follow a triple bottom line: People, Planet, and Profit. We value people through our vision of a world where risks to human life are minimized and operational capabilities are optimized. We value the planet in our desire to enable responsible and sustainable ocean observation, when and where it is needed. We value profit for our investors by creating a product that satisfies customer needs while saving customers money. This in turn will allow us to earn profits for our investors.
